An established, self-taught ceramicist with over ten years of studio practice, international residencies and exhibition experience, I balance a successful production line of functional ceramics with the creation of limited series, custom work and one-of-a-kind exhibition pieces. My work features a strong graphic element, incorporating photography, printmaking and computer techniques to create a narrative through image and pattern. Crossing disciplines and cultures my work draws from the formal beauty that surrounds us everyday – urban and rural landscapes, texts, music – with the goal of creating human connections through meaningful objects and spaces. With an educational background in science, I explore and push the boundaries of clay as a chemistry-based medium. There’s a scientific approach to my design process, delighting in problem-solving and technical challenges brought forward by new ideas and custom projects for clients.

Now based in Montreal, Laura McKibbon was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and has been working in ceramics for over ten years. She has received numerous grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the BC Arts Council. Her work with ceramic and print has been widely recognized and prominently featured in many high profile exhibitions and publications. These include being featured in Gestalten’s Fragiles: Ceramics, Porcelain and Glass, and having her Canoe Plate (2006) grace the cover of the Gardiner Museum’s On the Table: 100 Years of Functional Ceramics in Canada. Most recently her work was included in Paul Scott’s seminal publication Ceramic and Print and the exhibition Horizon: Landscape, Ceramic and Print, and supporting catalogue for the Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, Oslo
